Snowplowing was accomplished once in December and twice in January. The committee is experimenting with different ways to deal with plowing procedure so that the process can be done as fast as possible and with the least amount of outlay.
Three and one half miles of surfacing has taken place on Gallinas Parkway from Fishers Peak Parkway to Tall Oaks Drive. About three quarters of a mile of Old Mission Ridge down to Gallinas and about one half a mile of Cottonwood above and below the Turkey Creek Lane intersection are also being surfaced. The investment in road base to improve the Ranch roads is considerable ($12,000 - $14,000 per mile); the road committee is asking everyone to help protect our investment by reducing their driving speed. Speed is the major cause of washboards on our roads and repairing this damage increases the maintenance costs while reducing the funds available for road improvements.
The committee is currently looking at identifying culverts that are plugged and/or otherwise in need of repair. A safety concern is those culverts where the outlet side is eroding back into the roadway. The committee is also looking to identify extremely troublesome road sections that may be improved with a layer of rock or grading to improve water drainage. Please report any potential problem culverts and extremely bad road spots to a member of the road committee.
