Update on Water System Progress
May 9, 2004

Neighbors,

Our new contractor, Robert Nelson, began work during the first few days in April by familiarizing himself with the mechanics and history of the system, both good and bad.  An accurate inventory of supplies was made and the storage unit was organized.  Over the next few weeks in between snow and rain delays, a number of goals were accomplished.

The leakage rates in the first section to pump one was determined and the detective work began.  We contacted a number of leak detection manufacturers and some demonstrations of their products.  We were all hopeful that this would somehow shorten leak detection time.  Unfortunately, all of the devices were of no help whatsoever.  A few potholing operations followed and we are happy to announce that at least for now the contractor will move on to the lines feeding from Tank one.  We have all the history from the previous contractor and this will assist the in methodically testing all the lines and repairing any new leaks.

Our engineer is redesigning a new pump station at pump one and the specs will be in the hands of the pump contractor this week.  We hope to have that in operation within the next two weeks.

Our goals for the month of May are simple, accomplish as much as possible using the available water in tank one for pressurizing and leak testing, get pump one up and operational, and recheck the pumping of the cistern pumps feeding tank one.

I hope to keep all our neighbors updated weekly with our progress now that the weather is cooperating and we have a working routine established with the contractor.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have further questions.

Respectfully,
The reconstruction construction guy,
Mike Shelton
