We all anxiously await the day when we can start using the water system. That day is not here yet, but it is on the horizon.
We are hopeful that the design adjustments made to the pump station mechanisms are final. We have not yet had opportunity to test them adequately because of the discovery of a substantial leak in the delivery line from the city meter to the first pump station in Starkville. Further testing of the system has not been feasible until the leak could be found and fixed.
This past week, with the assistance of acoustical testing equipment lent to us by the Colorado Rural Water Association, we and OPEC believe we have found this elusive leak and fixed it. We must now install some protective strainers in front of the pump inlets to avoid pump damage from small debris getting into the lines as a result of fixing leaks. Once that task is accomplished, we can refill our storage tanks, further test for any meaningful leaks, sanitize the system, have the Health Department test and approve the system, and then begin service.
If our weather remains cooperative, we incur no further mechanical or substantial leak problems and the Health Department inspection goes smoothly, the system should be operational by late summer. Our hope , of course, is that success will come earlier.
We are approaching the 2nd anniversary of commencing construction. It seems like a long time, but in reality, this has been a monumental project and learning experience. In the long run, it will be well worth the effort. Please remember that the completion and acceptance of the system is bonded, as well as the 3 year warranty period from the time of acceptance.
We appreciate your understanding and patience. We especially appreciate the time and efforts of those who have been and are committed to helping us see this project through to fruition. Anyone wishing and able to volunteer their assistance in these final stages and the ongoing operation of the system in the future will also be greatly appreciated.
