On Saturday, March 17, 2001, a group of SFTR property owners met to discuss the status of the water system. Among those present were eight of the nine POA Board members, one member of the Metropolitan Water District Board, and seven other property owners.
Originally this discussion was to be a joint meeting of the POA and Metropolitan Water District Boards, but due to scheduling conflicts, the Metro Board was not able to attend.
The goal of the discussion was to understand the current reality of the water system and to discuss viable options for completing the system.
Rick Johnson shared minutes from the last meeting of the Ad Hoc water committee, detailing recent progress toward repairing problems at pump station #1, toward meeting with city engineers to recommend needed repairs, and toward putting pressure on the system contractor and the system engineer to complete their contractual obligations to the SFTR.
Harriet Vaugeois read excerpts from the April 15, 2000 Utilities Committee meeting, which illustrated that almost a year has passed without much change in the water system status.
Michael Hughes read through a detailed report of perceived problems, proposed solutions, and estimated costs that must be addressed before the system can be filled, tested, and made operable for the SFTR residents.
Open discussions occurred between all present at every step of the presentation. Participants decided to focus on positive steps that can be taken to move toward completion of the water project and not to dwell on negative assessments of what may or may not have occurred in the past.
Informal consensus of the discussion participants garnered the following action goals:
These goals will be pursued immediately and finalized at the rescheduled joint working session of the POA Board and the Metropolitan Water District Board following the April 21 POA Board meeting.
