Route goes thru Cimarron Canyon and can be treacherous if snowing, otherwise beautiful drive. Can see the Philmont and Vermejo Elk herd just east of Cimarron. Lots of wildlife to see.

Conditions are variable. Can be crowded especially around holidays. Fun with fresh snow. Good cruising runs. Great place to learn.

Ski Santa Fe

182 easy miles on I-25 South. Once you get to Santa Fe it is another 24 miles of mountain driving that is SLOW going.
43 trails: 20% beginner, 40% intermediate, 40% advanced Inconsistent snowfall but when its good…its very good!! Fun place to go and RON (remain overnight). 10,350 12,053
Taos Ski Valley

Route goes thru Cimarron Canyon and mountainous terrain west of Angel Fire. Can be an interesting drive in bad weather.

New Mexico’s premiere ski area and destination resort. Great skiing for intermediates. I wouldn’t recommend it for the “adult” beginner. Also good place to RON, fun town, good shopping!!

Famous for its deep dry powder and lots of sunshine.

Red River Ski Area

Route goes thru Cimarron Canyon which is slow going especially in bad weather. Can be impassable.
58 trails: 32% beginner, 38% intermediate, 30% expert 87% snowmaking and can be icy. Snow cone conditions. Could be reminiscent of Ski Iowa. Nice small town. I personally have not skied there yet. 8,750 10,350
You could make a week of skiing in New Mexico by starting at Santa Fe, going to Taos and ski the Enchanted Circle… Red River and Angel Fire.
Monarch Ski Area

Easy and scenic drive if road conditions are good.

Very scenic drive if conditions good. Must go over La Veta pass and Wolf Creek Pass to get there.

Most snow in Colorado and conditions always good!! Some great cruisers for beginners and intermediates and some real nasty stuff for the brain dead!! I really like this place.

High alpine location, tree and bowl skiing.
