Despite not organizing a group effort this spring, the subcommittee had a relatively good year. Many of the usual volunteers, plus some new residents, applied more than 225 gallons of herbicide spray on ranch roadsides. Several made a special effort in Gallinas Canyon.
Weeds sprayed in spring, 2006, along the fence between the Burlington Northern right-of-way and Fisher’s Peak Parkway made a strong rebound this year. In addition to reorganizing the Adopt-A-Road Program next spring, additional organized group effort will be required to retard the spread of thistle from the railroad property onto the ranch between the road and the fence.
